Madonna: State Certification is a locally recognized licence that covers all of California. On December 31, 2011 the minimum requirements are changing from 130 Hours to 250 Hours, and there is talk of a change from 250 Hours to 500 Hours by 2014, but nothing has been finalized yet.
Question: What do I need to do to being working immediately in massage therapy?
Madonna: The answer to this varies on your career goals and where you want to work. If your looking to work in the 38 states recognized by the National Certification (which you are qualified to take after our 500 Hour Program), you would need to take the national exam. If you are looking to work in a local county you need to complete their specific requirements and apply for a business licence. The licences in CA counties can vary greatly, so doing research is important. Some counties require: CPR, Insurance, and a minmum of 100-500 hours.
