Fundamentals of Bodywork Therapy with Survivors of Sexual Abuse

Donna C. Cerio, PhD candidate in Integrated Health Sciences, is the founder of Intentional Health ™, a body of work that addresses the needs of those recovering from sexual abuse, chronic illnesses and/or chronic pain. 

Donna’s 25+ years of work includes personal and organizational development, health care, and teaching in private practice, academic and medical settings, and the public arena.  As 20-year Founding Director and Master Instructor of the Holistic Health Program at UCSC, she trained and certified thousands of staff, students and instructors.  She is currently writing a dissertation for her Ph.D. about delivering health care to survivors of sexual abuse.

"One out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18." Statistics indicate that there is a strong likelihood that you will encounter this client population in your Massage Therapy practice.

This 12-hour course offers pertinent information and tools needed to effectively work with clients who have been sexually abused. Examining the special needs of this client population, the Massage Therapist learns:

  • Important information on the subject of sexual abuse
  • How this information applies to the Massage Therapy practice

  • The four stages of safe touch - PECE

  • Insights and methods that create safety for client and practitioner

  • To prevent re-traumatization during massage
